How Laser Hair Removal Works

Laser hair removal uses controlled light energy to target the pigment in the hair follicle. This helps reduce future hair growth while leaving the surrounding skin protected.

Because hair grows in different stages, a course of treatments is normally needed for the best reduction. Your consultation will help determine a suitable treatment plan for your skin, hair and chosen areas.

Laser Hair Removal FAQs

How many treatments will I need?

Most clients need a course of around 8–10 treatments, although this can vary depending on the treatment area, hair type, hormones and how your body responds. Your recommended course and appointment spacing will be discussed during your consultation.

Can all hair colours be treated?

Laser works best on hair containing plenty of pigment, particularly dark brown or black hair. Blonde, white, grey and red hair may respond poorly or may not be suitable because there is less pigment for the laser to target.

How long does each appointment take?

Appointment times depend on the size and number of areas being treated. A small area may take only a few minutes, while larger areas such as the legs or back can take considerably longer.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

Most people describe the sensation as gentle warmth, small pinpricks or a quick elastic-band snap against the skin. Some areas may feel more sensitive than others, but treatments are generally quick and the settings are tailored to your comfort.

Can laser be used on all skin tones?

Many skin tones can be treated safely when the correct technology and settings are used. Suitability depends on your skin tone, hair colour, recent sun exposure and individual circumstances, so a consultation and patch test are required first.

Will I need maintenance treatments?

Some clients choose occasional maintenance sessions after completing their initial course. Hair that returns is often finer and less noticeable, but hormones and individual hair-growth patterns can affect long-term results.
